Amazon’s Gay Kindle Ad [Video]

Amazon launches a new gay themed ad for Amazon Kindle Paperwhite.

While lounging near the beach, a man sees the woman next to him reading from her Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. He likes to read at the beach, but the glare from the sun makes it difficult. He uses his tablet to buy himself one and wants to celebrate with a drink with her…. and their husbands.

Funny Renault commercial: “We live in modern times”

French automaker Renault ran commercials that promoted “living in modern times.” They hit YouTube earlier this year, and this particular one promotes accepting alternative lifestyles.

A few months ago, McDonald’s France released a gay ad campaign. Earlier this year, France de-listed transgenderism as a mental illness.

Update: Some people have pointed out that it is unclear what the son says in the ad. He says “Can you get us in?”

French public opinion on homosexuality

According to PEW Research’s Global Attitudes Project (2007), 83% of the French public believe that “homosexuality should be accepted by society.” This percentage is one of the highest among countries surveyed. This month, a Crédoc survey (July, 2010) showed that 61% of respondents support gay marriage while 41% support same-sex adoption. Over the past 3 years, these statistics have increased 6% and 8%, respectively.

Last week, Equalitopia gave away free tickets to a special screening with the filmmakers of 8: The Mormon Proposition in select cities.

8: The Mormon Proposition is a film by Reed Cowan narrated by Dustin Lance Black about the Mormon Church’s historic involvement in the promotion and passage of California’s Proposition 8.

8: The Mormon Proposition exposes the Mormon Church’s historic involvement in the promotion and passage of California’s Proposition 8 and the religion’s secretive, decades-long campaign against gay rights. The film takes place in California and Utah as Mormons, following their prophet’s call to action, wage spiritual warfare with money and misinformation against gay citizens, doing everything they can to deny them of marriage and the rights that come with it. 8: The Mormon Proposition opens in theaters on June 18th, 2010, two years after the first gay marriages took place in California (June 17th, 2008).

No love for Phillip Morris

The highly anticipated gay film starring Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey has been postponed again. Maybe indefinitely.

The film, which originally premiered at Sundance in 2009, was set to premier in March. Consolidated Pictures Group, however, delayed the release date to the end of April, where it would have an very limited run and then expand over the next few months.

A spokeswoman for CPG reported to the LA Times that the film has been delayed yet again, and has no scheduled release date at this time.

I Love You Phillip Morris centers around the life of Steven Russell (Carrey) who is happily married with children. After a near death experience, Russell comes out of the closet, and lives as a con man to pay for his new lifestyle. Russell is eventually carried away to jail, where he falls in love with his cellmate, Phillip Morris (McGregor).

Though the content of the movie is controversial, it is rare for a film starring two heavyweight actors to sit in the dark for very long.

Jane Lynch to receive Outfest award

The gay actress, who has won acclaim for her portrayal of acerbic cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in the award-winning TV series, will receive the 14th annual Achievement Award on July 8 in Los Angeles, reports Variety.

Jane, who will reportedly marry her long-term partner Dr Lara Embry in May, told Stylist: “I never hid who I was, but I also didn’t push it out there either - and nobody seemed to care.

"I think one of the reasons I’ve had an easy path is that people like Ellen DeGeneres led the way. And now I just get to walk down that trail, whistling.”

Miley Cyrus deleted her Twitter account after abuse for tweeting that she supports gay marriage

Jam Showbiz reports that Miley Cyrus was bombarded with sickening hate mail after pledging her support for gay marriage last year.

She tells Parade magazine, “That’s the reason I deleted my Twitter account because I said on there that I believed in gay marriage because everyone should have the right to love each other, and I got such hate mail about my being a bad person.”

Famed Mexican Singer Would Rather See Children Die Than be Adopted by Gay Couple

Paquita la del Barrio, a Mexican singer has caused controversy with her comments on same-sex adoption. MSNBC reports that she said "It’s not in my taste that a poor creature should be adopted by them.“

When asked by a reporter if she would prefer a child die of hunger in the streets, or two human beings give him love and food, she responded: "That he die.”

Towleroad posted a video of her comments (Spanish, with English subtitles).
