Graffiti In Mississippi: “No 2 Gay Marrage”

A series of graffiti incidents has occurred in Jackson, Mississippi, one of which reads, “NO 2 GAY MARRAGE (sic) KILL THEM.”

The graffiti appears on the side of a vacant building on West Capitol Street according to My Fox AL. The Human Rights Campaign has condemned the graffiti in a blog post, saying that “this hateful message does not represent Mississippi values.”

The Human Rights Campaign also called for Mississippians to “stand up and make it clearly known that these kinds of messages of hatred have no place in our society.”

WATCH: Child Yells at People Outside Church That Vowed to Support Gay Marriage

A church in North Carolina vowed to stop performing marriages until its pastors are allowed to officiate weddings for gay couples. A young boy stood outside the church yelling remarks to the churchgoers and their support of same-sex marriage.

The Church posted the following statement:

“On the matter of same-sex marriage, Green Street UMC sees injustice in the legal position of state government and the theological position of our denomination.  North Carolina prohibits same-sex marriage and all the rights and privileges marriage brings.  The Leadership Council has asked that their ministers join others who refuse to sign any State marriage licenses until this right is granted to same- sex couples.”

Mayor of Newark, New Jersey’s impressive response to marriage equality

After Obama endorsed gay marriage, Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, reposted a video showing his response to a question about marriage equality.

I rejoice in President Obama’s announcement. But, let us all who believe in equality continue to labor in the cause. We still live in a nation where there are hundreds and hundreds of laws that deny gay Americans the same rights and privileges that straight Americans enjoy. And especially here in New Jersey, it is time for us to treat all of our citizens equally under the law and make marriage equality happen.

Here Comes The Bigotry of the Day: A Highland Park woman was denied the purchase of her “dream bridal gown” from a New Jersey wedding dress store because she is marrying another woman.

Alix Genter, who is set to marry her longtime partner next July, had her dress all picked out when Here Comes the Bride store manager Donna phoned her up and told her she couldn’t buy it because she was a lesbian.

According to Genter, Donna decried the marriage as “illegal” and said the store “do[es] not participate in any illegal actions.” (Genter and her partner are planning to get married in New York, which legalized same-sex marriages in June.)

“I was devastated,” Genter told Philadelphia Daily News columnist Ronnie Polaneczky. “I was crying. I called her a bigot; I told her, ‘I am a happy person and you are a miserable person.’ Then she hung up on me.”

When Polaneczky followed up with Donna, she was told that Genter’s replacement of the word “groom” with “partner” on the customer-information sheet was a deliberate provocation in an effort “to show that she’s different.” The manager then went on to define lesbians as women who are experimenting with other women because “men can be difficult.”

Apparently Donna has been “persuaded” by a bad Yelp review from Genter to meet with her parents “to try to smooth things over.”

Gays Couples Lead in ‘Ultimate Wedding Contest’

Gay marriage may be legal in only 5 US states, but that’s not stopping gay couples from winning a $100,000 wedding in The Ultimate Wedding Contest by Crate & Barrel and Daily Candy!

Gregory & Jonathan are in 1st place, but 2nd place is catching up, so we need to help them out! Earl & Mikey, another gay couple are in 5th place. Further down the list are Ed & ErwinVinnie & RobMarbree, and Aaron.

The Advocate reports that voting ends on March 31st, where the top 50 couples will move to the finals round. From there, the winning couple will be selected by Crate & Barrel and Daily Candy and celebrity wedding planner Jo Gartin.

One way to promote equality is raising awareness and being seen. Let’s help these gay couples! Also note that Earl and Mikey’s Ultimate wedding is in New York City—where gay marriage is not legal. How will this play out?

Prediction of The Future of Gay Marriage

Above is a map with the predictions of when gay marriage bans will be voted against throughout the United States. The map was created by Map Scroll and the predictions were researched by FiveThirtyEight.com.

The model for these predictions were based on:

  1. The year in which the amendment was voted upon;
  2. The percentage of adults in 2008 Gallup tracking surveys who said that religion was an important part of their daily lives;
  3. The percentage of white evangelicals in the state.
