Equaldex Country Pages Receive Uplift

Equaldex’s country pages received a facelift! Check it out: LGBT Rights in Canada (or visit any country page on Equaldex).

The summary section of each country is a little more visual, highlighting homosexuality and same-sex marriage. The country’s shape animates as you scroll, and the visual design of the “history” and “subregions” sections were slightly cleaned up. The bottom of each page displays other countries in the same continent.

Introducing Interactive United States LGBT Rights Maps on Equaldex

By popular demand, Equaldex has introduced United States maps showing the legal status of each LGBT issue, in addition to its global maps.

You can now view the status of gay marriage, same-sex adoption, discrimination protection, the ability to change your legal gender, and conversion therapy.

The feature also allows you to view the most recent law changes for each issue within the United States.

Note that the data entered by users is still being verified and edited by users. If you see something inaccurate or missing, please sign up to Equaldex and contribute!

Since Equaldex’s launch in February, this has been one of Equaldex’s most highly requested feature. Last month, Equaldex launched a new interactive visualization of the global opinion of homosexuality.

Equaldex will soon be expanding to other countries. Which countries would you like to see added?

Homosexuality Laws By Country: An [Incomplete] Map Generated By Equaldex Users
Above is a map of the world showing where homosexual activity is legal and illegal. Many of the red countries include penalties of life in prison and the death penalty.
This interactive map (along with 7 other maps for other LGBT issues) was generated using data contributed by Equaldex users, however it’s far from complete. (Also, most data has not yet been verified by other users, so there are likely to be errors). Historical data is also being collected, so maps could be generated for any day in history.
Equaldex is still in private Alpha. Want to be among the first 100 people to use Equaldex? Equaldex is looking for more Alpha testers to help test, contribute, or give feedback about the site.
Want early access? More invites will be sent out this weekend. Sign up on Equaldex.com!

White House releases “Progress For The LGBT Community” infographic

The White House just published an inforgraphic that overviews the progress of LGBT Americans. @BarackObama tweeted: “From safer schools to ending #DADT, take a look at three years of progress for LGBT Americans.”

From their post:

“Three years ago, "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was the law of the land, and the words “lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender” appeared nowhere in the federal register.

Today, gay and lesbian men and women can serve their country without hiding who they are. The Obama administration has declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional, and the President is working to make our schools safer for LGBT youth.

As we celebrate three years of progress for LGBT Americans under President Obama – and work toward another four – here’s a look at how far we’ve come since the President took office.“
